Source-aligned versus consumer-aligned
One of the most popular classifications divides pure data products based on their role within the architecture into the following three categories: source aligned, aggregation, and consumer aligned.
Source-aligned pure data products read data from external systems and transform them at the representation level to make data easily consumable by other products. They do not apply complex business logic; transformations are mostly syntactic. The semantics remain aligned with that of the source system from which they collect data.
