Using effective communication strategies
One of the critical components of IR is communication. There has to be a proper flow of information internally as well as externally to partners outside the organization. If communication is not well strategized, there will be disruptions at inconvenient times to the response team, as other employees will often want to know the progress of the process. For instance, the executives might keep calling team members for updates or the marketing team might barge in to ask for a timescale to give customers. Hence, poor communication can distress the team and add more chaos to an incident.
To handle communication, the IR team should have communication liaison personnel on board. These team members will have the responsibility of keeping all departments up to date about the progress of the IR process. There are handy solutions such as email lists that can ease the work for the communication personnel in sharing the information.
