Summary
Every day, people are moving from their laptops to a mobile device to access information. With the amount and type of data that we are accessing every day, we need to protect our mobile devices from security hazards. Passwords and PINs are inherently weak authentication mechanisms and, as a result, more and more device manufacturers are using biometrics to ensure access control.
In this chapter, we examined the need to incorporate optimal attributes for mobile biometric applications. We also learned some of the optimal biometrics for mobile devices, with the importance of streamlining the user experience and how the use of haptics may play a more significant role in ensuring continuous authentication. Lastly, we now understand the need as to why it is important to incorporate key biometric technology when designing methods to capture the image, as well as integrate with the backend, while ensuring security and privacy.
