Julia is a high-level, high-performance dynamic programming language for numerical computing. What is included in a Packt subscription?

A subscription provides you with full access to view all Packt and licnesed content online, this includes exclusive access to Early Access titles. Depending on the tier chosen you can also earn credits and discounts to use for owning content

How can I cancel my subscription?

To cancel your subscription with us simply go to the account page - found in the top right of the page or at https://subscription.packtpub.com/my-account/subscription - From here you will see the ‘cancel subscription’ button in the grey box with your subscription information in.

What are credits?

Credits can be earned from reading 40 section of any title within the payment cycle - a month starting from the day of subscription payment. You also earn a Credit every month if you subscribe to our annual or 18 month plans. Credits can be used to buy books DRM free, the same way that you would pay for a book. Your credits can be found in the subscription homepage - subscription.packtpub.com - clicking on ‘the my’ library dropdown and selecting ‘credits’.

Can I download the code files for Early Access titles?

We try to ensure that all books in Early Access have code available to use, download, and fork on GitHub. This helps us be more agile in the development of the book, and helps keep the often changing code base of new versions and new technologies as up to date as possible. Unfortunately, however, there will be rare cases when it is not possible for us to have downloadable code samples available until publication.

When we publish the book, the code files will also be available to download from the Packt website.

How accurate is the publication date?

The publication date is as accurate as we can be at any point in the project. Unfortunately, delays can happen. Often those delays are out of our control, such as changes to the technology code base or delays in the tech release. We do our best to give you an accurate estimate of the publication date at any given time, and as more chapters are delivered, the more accurate the delivery date will become.

How will I know when new chapters are ready?

We'll let you know every time there has been an update to a course that you've bought in Early Access. You'll get an email to let you know there has been a new chapter, or a change to a previous chapter. The new chapters are automatically added to your account, so you can also check back there any time you're ready and download or read them online.

How is Early Access delivered?

Early Access is currently only available as a PDF or through our online reader. As we make changes or add new chapters, the files in your Packt account will be updated so you can download them again or view them online immediately.

This book provides plenty of examples to demonstrate how good performance can be coaxed out of Julia. It clarified many of the fundamental questions that I had on writing Julia code which most other introductory tutorials on Julia found online glazed over.

Saw -tube videos, read some online discussions, then jumped right into learning Julia. In books, started with a $9 one that was worthless. Next, a Julia language "primer," which was just that I needed. 3rd book for me is this one for high performance programming. (I've only been programming many languages since 1977 so I'm still a beginner.) For HP working concepts, this book did not disappoint!It gives a broad spectrum of Julia specifics, exactly what I was hoping for. The only topic, of the many addressed, that was glossed over is 'broadcasting.' I still don't have a conceptual handle on that concept. Of the many others presented, the code snippets and references were an ideal blend that teaches you broadly what Julia is and what it's good for. Not many programming primers do that and even fewer do it this well.Yes, there are typos, some of which I still haven't figured out. :) Where is the Packt EDITOR? Probably sleeping on a park bench somewhere... That was the only disappointing issue in this entire work.Highly recommended if you are familiar with programming in general and have a pretty good background in the technical basics of compiler concepts. Maybe that is a misleading statement; the book is probably an excellent reference in general for working and getting the most out of Julia and your hardware.I want MORE! I want deep dives into so many of the concepts presented in this work!And, btw, excellent value for your money. :)

I felt like I needed to write a review to offset the other 1 star review. I think that the book is great. Unlike a generic computer science textbook, this focuses specifically on how and why Julia is fast - and what to do and not to do in order to make your Julia code speedy. This was the first Julia book that I bought and I got a lot of value out of reading it.

This book is nothing more than a beginners guide in Julia, combined with the section from the Julia documentation about performance tweaks. It is bad-written and has typos (many typos). There seems to be no lectorate at Packt. Instead of this book, you should better get a formal computer science book about high performance programming independent of language, then you know what your computer does and why it helps to speed the program up. Julia is insightful enough to apply this concepts. I would have hoped that this book would go over more more topics and some background and not just copy the section from the documentation about performant programming in Julia, but it does not. I would advice against buying it.
