Summary
This chapter served as an introduction to understanding the world of PKI. The chapter began with the basic fundamentals of SSL from a user's point of view and discussed how SSL works for web-based applications. We also covered what functions and algorithms are available for us to generate a strong certificate. In addition, we have seen how certificates are generated for Windows IIS and looked at how to use the OpenSSL tool. This chapter also gave you an insight into the threats to PKI and how to safeguard against them for a better user experience.
In the next chapter, we will discuss firewall as a security appliance and explore its place in network infrastructure.
