Why we chose the Cargo Tracker application

It is hard to find open source projects that focus on Java EE technology. The reason for this is simple: these types of applications are used in a business environment and deal with fine-grained business logic. Very few people have the combined knowledge of technology and business rules, let alone the time to start such a project.

Naturally, we could not use the sources from closed source projects as we would not be able to share the sources with you.

Luckily, the Cargo Tracker application meets all the demands we have for a demo application. It is open source, uses a fair amount of Java EE technology, and is still simple enough to understand even for those not familiar with the shipping business.
