Context

Apart from users, systems and services interact with cloud resources and cloud applications to deliver functionality. There is a need for a standards-based approach to be able to implement effective and efficient service access to applications in the cloud.

Traditionally, security is enforced at the edge layer for a monolithic application, and subsequent interactions are considered secure. This is like an entry check at the gate of a mansion, and then no authentication is required to enter different rooms of a building.
