Placing yourself within The Four Competencies Model
The Four Competencies Model you will find throughout this book is not a scientific model, but instead is based on my experience in higher education, not-for-profit, and corporate instructional design. The model follows my empirical observations from working with or observing the skills of the most successful IDs.
What I've observed is that successful IDs possess some degree of strength in all four competency areas - and believe it or not, none of these areas have to do with software development skills.
The four key competencies that the most successful IDs possess have to do with their ability to teach, write, create, and collaborate successfully with others:
