Take a look at the following image. Does it remind you of anything? Perhaps navigation on a website?
It's possible that the design of this bakery sign was intended to mimic website navigation, but more to the point, it demonstrates that navigation is required regardless of the medium within which it is presented. The sign in this image can also be easily seen from just about anywhere in the store. Navigation like this could be used in an online setting as well. Getting around, knowing where we are at any point in the process, and finding our way to an objective easily is what IA is all about.
