The data management approach centered around the concept of data products is not the only modern approach to the practice aimed at addressing issues faced by traditional solutions. In this section, we will review the three main alternative approaches, examine their key characteristics, and explore how they relate to the data-product-centric approach described in this book.
Data mesh
Data mesh is a decentralized socio-technical approach to data management for analytical purposes in large and complex organizations. Coined by Zhamak Dehghani, the data mesh approach is based on the following four principles that define its technological and organizational architecture:
