From object detection to instance segmentation – Mask R-CNN

A second way of addressing instance segmentation is from the angle of object detection. In Chapter 5, Object Detection Models, we presented solutions to return the bounding boxes for object instances appearing in images. In the following paragraphs, we will demonstrate how these results can be turned into more refined instance masks. More precisely, we will present Mask R-CNN, a network extending Faster R-CNN.
