Understanding how themes affect styles
Every time you open a brand new Word document, you are using a Word theme. It's called the Office theme and that theme affects the default font, colors, and effects that you see in Word. For example, from the Home tab, in the Font group, if you were to click on the Font Color menu button, you would see a variety of familiar Theme Colors:
You can also find these Theme Colors in other color galleries, such as when you insert a shape or insert a chart:
Even Styles will be affected by the document's theme. From the Home tab, if you open the Styles gallery, you may notice that some styles will have colors applied to them:
