Editing with the keyboard
As with most professional software applications, the real power of using it becomes apparent when you learn the various keyboard shortcuts to perform actions. Unlike most other software, Pro Tools binds many actions to single keys as opposed to mostly using combinations with modifier keys. Learning these commands and how keyboard focus functions is the one area that will impact your proficiency in using Pro Tools more than anything. There are many, many keyboard shortcuts and hotkeys, but for this recipe, we will focus on the keys that impact editing specifically.
Getting ready
For this recipe, you will need a Pro Tools session with an audio clip placed into a track. The commands in this recipe require Keyboard Focus to be active in the Edit window.
