Suppose you keep interrupting your evening to check and respond to emails or put aside a few hours over the weekend to catch up on an approaching deadline. You may think you are more productive because you are putting in many more work hours than your colleagues.
The truth is that you are robbing your directed attention centers of the uninterrupted rest they need for restoration, which inevitably results in low performance in the long run.
