SharePoint MinRole resources
We talked about MinRoles and their importance in Chapter 2, Planning and Architecture. Assigning MinRoles at this point in our configuration is essential as we have two big service applications we left out previously: User Profile Services and Search Services. I have different reasons for leaving these for last, all of which will be explained in Chapter 6, Finalizing the Farm – Going Live, but to summarize, User Profiles require a server resource in order to run efficiently, as do Search Services. In our configuration, Search requires two servers for redundancy. We can only provide these resources by adding the servers to the farm, which we will do now. Distributed caches will come into play now as well.
