Creating your first Landscape

In this section, we will learn how to create a Landscape and we will explore all the options we have in the Landscape creation panel.

The Landscape system in Unreal Engine 5 is a group of tools and options that allows us to create massive natural external environments in a fast and intuitive way. As we will discover in the following pages, the Landscape system allows us to create a huge ground that can be manually sculpted with several sculpting tools or generated from a texture (heightmap). In the same way, we can create mountains, hills, deserts, canyons, or massive fields and place Foliage actors on them (we will talk about Foliage tools in the Discovering the Foliage mode section of this chapter) to make them more realistic and vivid.

To create a new Landscape, you need to enter Landscape mode. As we saw in Chapter 2, to change mode, you can use the drop-down menu in the main toolbar. You can also use the SHIFT + 2 keyboard shortcut to enter...
