Introduction to Compute on AWS
Compute on AWS refers to the ability to process and execute tasks using virtual servers and services provided by the AWS cloud infrastructure. AWS offers a versatile range of compute options to cater to a diverse set of application and workload requirements. Traditional virtual servers, known as EC2 instances, form the foundation, allowing users to launch and manage virtual machines with various operating systems and configurations. Many companies are currently running a wide range of operating systems across their IT estate. Many end users will be running macOS or Windows on their laptops, many of the application servers will be running Unix, and it is likely that a lot of the login and security permissions are being stored on a Windows server using Active Directory. As a result, being able to move all of these different server types to EC2 and reduce the need to manage these physical servers on-premises is a massive benefit and offers a large cost saving...
