Importing a vSphere Distributed Switch into the datacenter from a backup

It is possible to import a DSwitch into a datacenter from a configuration backup. This functionality will come in handy if the existing DSwitch configuration is corrupted or lost. Refer to the Exporting the vSphere Distributed Switch configuration recipe to learn how to back up the DSwitch configuration.

How to do it...

The following procedure explains how to import a DSwitch into the datacenter:

  1. Right-click on the datacenter to which you intend to import the DSwitch, and navigate to All vCenter Actions | Import Distributed Switch to bring up the Import Distributed Switch wizard.

  2. Click on Browse... to locate and select the ZIP archive.

  3. If applicable, choose to Preserve the original distributed switch and port group identifiers by selecting the checkbox next to this option. Click on Next to continue.

  4. Review the Import Settings section on the Ready to complete screen, and click on Finish to initiate the import operation.
