Resignaturing VMFS on a snapshot LUN


Resignaturing is done when you know that the LUN that has been detected as a snapshot is indeed a snapshot and you intend to use it going forward. For example, if the LUN is not presented at a DR site, and if you do not want to retain the same UUID, then you can choose to resignature the VMFS volume.

How to do it...

Resignaturing can be done in two ways:

  • Using the vSphere Web Client's New Datastore wizard

  • Using esxcli

Using the New Datastore wizard

Much like mounting a VMFS volume on a snapshot LUN, as discussed in the previous section, you can follow the same new storage wizard to resignature the snapshot LUN.

The following procedure will guide you through the steps required to mount a VMFS volume on a replica of a LUN or a LUN detected as snapshot:

  1. Use the vSphere Web Client to connect to the vCenter Server.

  2. Navigate to Home | Storage.

  3. With the Datacenter object selected, navigate to Related Objects | Datastores and click on the New Datastore icon.
