Technical requirements

This chapter requires an iPhone or iPad, as we will be using the mobile iMovie app. For the best experience following along, you’ll want iMovie version 3.0.1, which requires iOS/iPadOS 16.1 or later. However, Magic Movie and Storyboards were introduced with iMovie version 3.0, which runs on iOS 15.3. So, if you have an Apple device that can’t run iOS 16 but already has iMovie installed, you will get a similar experience with iMovie 3.0.

We’ll also be using stock footage downloaded from the internet. For Magic Movie, the interactive resources are available in the Chapter 2 folder in the .zip file provided to you, and for Storyboard mode, we will download footage from a free stock footage website. Therefore, you’ll need an internet connection and plenty of space on your device. Mind you, it’s always important to have space to spare when editing!
