Objective

The primary goal of the initial lab is to set up a fundamental MPLS network based on LDP. The key emphasis lies in verifying the functionality of traditional MPLS forwarding across all routers in the topology. The end-to-end reachability test will specifically concentrate on the IP and label forwarding from PE1 to PE5, as shown in the following topology.

This single topology will be utilized throughout the book for all hands-on labs.

To achieve the goal, a three-step process will be followed:

  • IPv4 address
    1. Develop a simple yet efficient IP addressing schema and configure the routers accordingly. This makes it easier to identify both routers (loopback) and the connections between them.
    2. Verify that all links are correctly configured by checking IP reachability on the point-to-point connections between the routers.
