Considering the implications of size on an organization's structure
The best-fit structure for distributing responsibilities of roles to people in an organization is largely a function of the size of the program in the organization, as seen in the following screenshot:
From the preceding screenshot, we can see that the following applies:
- Small-sized programs, which often involve a team of one individual, certainly can only be structured as a hero/heroine as the individual is simultaneously the Executive Sponsor, MajorDomo, and Data Specialist.
- Department-sized programs have more people involved and likely have the Vice President (VP) of the department as the sponsor, a manager as the MajorDomo, and a few business analysts (BAs) as Data Specialists.
