Defining operational teams
A data management function oriented toward managing data as a product must have four core operational capabilities: data product development, XOps platform engineering, governance policy making, and data transformation enabling. This section will explore how to structure teams so that they can implement each of these capabilities optimally according to the organizational context.
Data product teams
Teams that implement the data product development capability within the data management function are stream-aligned teams that can develop and manage data products autonomously throughout their entire life cycle. They’re aligned with business domains rather than layers of the technology stack. Each data product team is typically associated with one or more instances of business capability and is responsible for supporting the teams that implement these capabilities within the organization by developing and maintaining the necessary data products.
