Comparing parts to the whole with segments
Segments in Domo are a way to create specific filters on a dataset and use them as a series in cards. The advantage of segments over other filters is that they show up as a series in the chart while also preserving the context of the whole. So, it is helpful to quickly see the whole in relation to the segment. For instance, you could see the East region's sales in relation to total sales on a line chart. You could also do this with custom beast modes, but segments are a shortcut. Segments work at the dataset level, so once a segment is created, it can be used on any card consuming the dataset.
Let's get a feel for how segments work with an example of creating regional sales segments and applying them to the Sales Trend card:
