Lab 13 – TI-LFA Tiebreaker
In the previous chapter, the concept of TI-LFA node + SRLG protection was explored, demonstrating how a fast reroute backup path can be provided in networks where both node and SRLG failures are a concern. By combining these two protection mechanisms, comprehensive coverage is ensured, allowing traffic to be rerouted in various failure scenarios. This dual protection (link protection is enabled by default) is particularly valuable in large and complex production networks.
However, there are instances where TI-LFA can only offer either node protection or SRLG protection, but not both simultaneously. In such cases, the Point of Local Repair (PLR) router must prioritize one protection mechanism over the other. This is where the tiebreaker index values for each protection method, introduced in previous chapters, become crucial.
