Leveraging the Power Apps Data Integration service

For integrating data with the Common Data Service, a simple point and click tool has been built into the Power Apps platform. The Data Integrator is a direct integration service that leverages connections to bring data to and from several platforms into the Common Data Service.

While it does leverage the connectors configured through the Power Apps connections, the templates revolve mainly around transferring data between the Dynamics ERP offering and the Sales product, between Salesforce and Dynamics 365 for Sales, or for integration to various SQL databases. The plan is to extend these connections, but at the time of writing, the capabilities are much more restrictive than the previous integration options presented.

The service has been available since 2017, but it is still at a stage where a lack of more robust controls is impacting the usability. We will be looking at some of the drawbacks throughout this section.
