Summary

In this chapter, we understood what an operating model is and the critical components of a strong and robust operating model. We learned that for an operating model to be effective, it must be flexible, able to create a collaborative environment for teams, and focus on creating value. We looked at the difference between the platform operating model and the linear product operating model.

We then dived deeper into each of the components of the operating model from the platform's perspective. We looked at the platform team structure and the different teams within the digital and non-digital space. We learned that the digital team structure should reflect the modular architecture, and each module (framework, service, or channel) must have a single owner. Non-digital teams are mostly business operations teams, such as sales, finance, marketing, and customer support.
