Summary

There are multiple options for storing data in AWS and those depend on the type of data we need to store. For data that is not shared and requires block-level high performance access, we are always able to use EBS volumes. If we need to share that data, S3 is a great option due to its high availability and durability, backed by an SLA. Since S3 doesn't support block-level access, we can use EFS, which strives to provide an NFS compatible environment that is designed with the same HA and durability as S3. When data needs to be shared between our on-premises and AWS environments, an AWS Storage Gateway can be utilized to emulate a network filesystem, an iSCSI volume device, or a virtual tape library that we can connect to our existing backup infrastructure.
