The OSM community
One of the most benevolent and vibrant aspects of the OSM ecosphere is the community of dedicated groups that commit their time and energy to the cause of open source mapping. Dedicated service groups host events for geospatial practitioners to help with rapid mapping in areas of need. One such example is the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT), who help with mapping assistance using recent satellite imagery in underserved areas. The HOT team organized a massive effort after the 2023 earthquakes in Turkey and Syria to provide updated location insights to emergency responders.
