Task relationships
Imagine each task in your project as a person at a party. Task relationships are the social rules that determine who talks to whom, who waits for whom to finish telling a story, and who arrives together. In project management, these relationships define how tasks interreact with each other; some tasks can’t start until another one finishes, while others move along side by side. These relationships keep your project organized.
In Microsoft Project, there are four different types of task relationships, kind of like the different ways that a person interacts at a party. These four types are as follows:
- Finish to Start (FS)
- Start to Start (SS)
- Finish to Finish (FF)
- Start to Finish (SF)
These dependencies or links determine the schedule and task relationships. For each dependency, there is a Predecessor (P) and a Successor (S) task:
